How to get to Prague, Czech Republic, from Linz, Austria??

I have a eurailpass, entitling me to travel to 18 countries in 15 days, but the countries do not include Czech, I believe in order to go to Prague, I need to pay an additional supplementary fee. Can anybody tell me how much it is? Or maybe suggestan alternative way to get to Prague from Linz, Austria with a cheaper, more affordable fare? Then I need to get from Prague to Nurnberg or Munchen Germany too, maybe by bus? Where do I check online for schedules of different transportations?

  1. hey there, if you have a eurorail pass I suppose that Germany and Austria are included in the countries you can travel for free, you can check for travelling schedules at www.bahn.de, unfortunatly this page is only in German, sorry but German companies are not as advanced and international as they should be, but there you can check at least the times (left bar) Prague --> Prag Munich --> München Linz --> Linz then you should go to a service point when you are in Linz, they can sell you a ticket that starts at the border of Czech...and back if you need more help with translation or want me to check at the Train company for detailed prices, mail me greets Anne
  2. goto www.idos.cz that's the czech travel site for buses and trains click on vlak (meaning train) then you can change it to english and search for journeys in czech,or from czech to germany!
  3. As correctly answered before, http://jizdnirady.atlas.cz/ConnForm.asp?tt=a&cl=E5 (the English version of http://www.idos.cz ) should give you all possible connections. If you have Eurailpass, you will have to pay a supplement from the border (Summerau Gr.) to Prague. It costs 274 CZK + 20 CZK supplement from a Czech conductor (1 EUR = approx. 25 CZK) after crossing the border in second class, 411 CZK + 20 CZK in the first class. If the conductor does not come before the Czech border station (Horní Dvořiště), you can get off there and buy the ticket from the ticket office without the 20 CZK supplement - there should normally be enough time for it. If you travel with somebody, make sure you buy the ticket together - two people will pay only 384 / 576 CZK in 2nd/1st class. Note that you will need CZK (Czech Koruna) to do this. You can also buy the ticket at an international ticket office in Austria, but it will surely be much more expensive (up to twice or three times as much - domestic tickets are subsidized while international are not). Enjoy your trip!!
  4. By train it costs about 33 Euro. There is a direct train in the morning. (6.14) The journey lasts 5 1/2 hours. Christian
